Happy May Day! On this International Workers' Day, there is no better way to honor our history than by continuing the fight for our future. I am writing to provide you with an update on our progress as we move deeper into contract negotiations with Macy’s.
The Work Continues
Since our opening session, your member-led bargaining committee has been hard at work. We have been meeting consistently to hold the line and ensure the company understands the reality of your day-to-day experience on the shop floor.
While the big economic pieces like the significant wage increases and changes to our commission structures and medical premium relief we are pushing for remain central to our goals, our most recent sessions have focused heavily on our other key issues. These are the vital quality of life items that protect our rights and dignity at work, and focus on the future growth of our union including:
Better Orientation Systems: Ensuring every new hire is properly introduced to the strength and protection of our union from day one.
Holiday Recognition: Continuing our push for the official recognition of Juneteenth as a paid holiday.
Contract Language: Strengthening the rules that govern your schedules, seniority, and workplace safety.
Powered by the Membership
Our committee is made up of workers just like you. They are taking time away from their families and their shifts to sit across from management and demand respect. However, their voices only carry weight if management knows the entire membership is standing right behind them.
As I look back on my 40 years with Macy's this month, I am reminded that every gain we have ever made, from the housekeepers to the sales floor, was won through strong solidarity.

¡Feliz Primero de Mayo! En este Día Internacional de los Trabajadores, no hay mejor manera de honrar nuestra historia que continuando la lucha por nuestro futuro. Les escribo para ponerlos al día sobre nuestro progreso a medida que avanzamos en las negociaciones contractuales con Macy’s.
El trabajo continúa
Desde nuestra sesión inaugural, su comité de negociación —dirigido por los propios miembros— ha estado trabajando arduamente. Nos hemos estado reuniendo de manera constante para mantenernos firmes y asegurar que la empresa comprenda la realidad de su experiencia cotidiana en el lugar de trabajo.
Si bien los grandes aspectos económicos —tales como los aumentos salariales significativos, los cambios en nuestras estructuras de comisiones y el alivio en las primas médicas que estamos impulsando— siguen siendo fundamentales para nuestros objetivos, nuestras sesiones más recientes se han centrado intensamente en otros temas clave. Se trata de elementos vitales para la calidad de vida que protegen nuestros derechos y dignidad en el trabajo, y que se enfocan en el crecimiento futuro de nuestro sindicato, incluyendo:
Mejores sistemas de orientación: Asegurar que cada nuevo empleado sea debidamente introducido a la fortaleza y protección de nuestro sindicato desde el primer día.
Reconocimiento de días festivos: Continuar nuestra presión para lograr el reconocimiento oficial del *Juneteenth* como día festivo remunerado.
Lenguaje contractual: Fortalecer las normas que rigen sus horarios, antigüedad y seguridad en el lugar de trabajo.
Impulsados por la membresía
Nuestro comité está compuesto por trabajadores, tal como ustedes. Ellos están dedicando tiempo que le restan a sus familias y a sus turnos laborales para sentarse frente a la gerencia y exigir respeto. Sin embargo, sus voces solo tendrán peso si la gerencia sabe que toda la membresía los respalda firmemente.
Al reflexionar este mes sobre mis 40 años en Macy's, recuerdo que cada logro que hemos obtenido —desde el personal de limpieza hasta el personal de ventas— se consiguió gracias a una sólida solidaridad.
