Dear RWDSU Local 1-S Member,
I’m writing to update you that bargaining for our new contract has officially begun. Our full committee was seated today for the opening session, and we have started the serious work of negotiating for the improvements you deserve.
In my opening remarks to the company, I made it clear that you are the foundation of this company. We are at the table to fight for meaningful wage increases that keep pace with the cost of living, relief from skyrocketing medical premiums, and greater financial stability for our commission-based members. We are also pushing for the recognition of Juneteenth as a paid holiday and a better orientation system for new hires to build the future of our union.
As most, if not all, of you know, I’ll have worked for Macy's for 40 years this coming May. I started out as a housekeeper in the White Plains store in 1986. I came to the union office in 2012 and, most recently, this past February, had the honor of being elected President of Local 1-S RWDSU. It's a story that young people today should also be able to tell when they’re my age, and I believe because of our union contract and the work we do together at this table that will continue to be true.
As we move through this process, the importance of our unity cannot be overstated. Our strength at the bargaining table is a direct reflection of our solidarity on the shop floor. When we stand together with one voice, we send a powerful message that we are committed to securing a fair and equitable contract. This is our time to remain united and focused on our shared goals.
A huge thank you to our incredible bargaining committee, who were seated today for our opening session. This dedicated team is officially at the table fighting for the fair wages, affordable healthcare, and the respect that every Local 1-S member deserves.

Les escribo para informarles que las negociaciones para nuestro nuevo contrato han comenzado oficialmente. Nuestro comité completo tomó asiento hoy para la sesión inaugural, y hemos iniciado la seria labor de negociar las mejoras que ustedes merecen.
En mis palabras de apertura ante la empresa, dejé claro que ustedes son el pilar fundamental de esta compañía. Estamos sentados a la mesa para luchar por aumentos salariales significativos que se mantengan a la par del costo de la vida, por un alivio ante el vertiginoso aumento de las primas de seguro médico y por una mayor estabilidad financiera para nuestros miembros que trabajan a comisión. También estamos presionando para que se reconozca el *Juneteenth* como día festivo remunerado y para establecer un mejor sistema de orientación para los nuevos empleados, con el fin de construir el futuro de nuestro sindicato.
Como la mayoría —si no todos— de ustedes saben, este próximo mes de mayo cumpliré 40 años de servicio en Macy's. Comencé mi trayectoria como personal de limpieza en la tienda de White Plains en 1986. Llegué a la oficina del sindicato en 2012 y, más recientemente —el pasado mes de febrero—, tuve el honor de ser elegido Presidente del RWDSU Local 1-S. Es una historia que los jóvenes de hoy también deberían poder contar cuando alcancen mi edad; y tengo la firme convicción de que, gracias a nuestro contrato sindical y al trabajo que realizamos juntos en esta mesa de negociación, esa realidad perdurará.
A medida que avancemos en este proceso, la importancia de nuestra unidad será incalculable. Nuestra fortaleza en la mesa de negociación es un reflejo directo de nuestra solidaridad en el lugar de trabajo. Cuando nos mantenemos unidos y alzamos una sola voz, enviamos un mensaje contundente de que estamos comprometidos a asegurar un contrato justo y equitativo. Este es nuestro momento para permanecer unidos y enfocados en nuestros objetivos compartidos.
Un enorme agradecimiento a nuestro increíble comité de negociación, cuyos miembros tomaron asiento hoy para nuestra sesión inaugural.
